2014 Barbaresco DOCG Basarin Riserva MAGNUM

"Blue flower, underbrush and wild herb aromas mix with a whiff of tobacco. Racy and linear, the palate offers sour cherry, star anise and a hint of rusted iron alongside taut, close-grained tannins that leave a drying finish." -90 pts, Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

Region:  Barbaresco, Piemonte

Appellation:  Barbaresco DOCG

Varietal/Blend:  100% Nebbiolo

ABV:  13.5%

Vineyard:  The 2014 Barbaresco DOCG Basarin Riserva comes from Punset’s estate vineyards on San Cristoforo hill, the highest point in the Barbaresco zone. The steep southeast- and south-facing slopes are farmed organically and biodynamically following Fukuoka principles, with permanent grass cover maintained throughout the vineyards. Yields in 2014 were kept approximately 20% below the permitted maximum. Grapes were hand-harvested in mid-October during the cool early morning hours.

Cellar: Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks without artificial temperature control. Following destemming, the wine undergoes a traditional 32-day skin maceration with regular cap management before gentle pressing. After MLC, it is aged for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks and a further 30 months in a bottle prior to release.

CSPC:  141660
