Punset
2014 Barbaresco DOCG Basarin Riserva MAGNUM
Region: Barbaresco, Piemonte
Appellation: Barbaresco DOCG
Varietal/Blend: 100% Nebbiolo
ABV: 13.5%
Vineyard: 2014 Barbaresco DOCG Basarin Riserva comes from Punset’s estate vineyards on San Cristoforo hill, the highest point in the Barbaresco zone. The steep Basarin slopes face mainly southeast, with some southern exposure, allowing slow, even warming from sunrise through the day. Farmed organically and biodynamically and guided by Fukuoka principles, the vineyards remain grass-covered and alive. In 2014, yields were kept 20% below the permitted maximum.
Cellar: Harvest finished in mid-October 2014, with grapes picked early in the morning to retain natural coolness. Fermentation occurred spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, without artificial temperature control. After destemming, the must fermented in cement tanks with traditional cap work and a long maceration of 32 days on skins. The wine was gently pressed and completed malolactic fermentation before aging for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks. Following bottling, it rested for an average of 30 months in bottle prior to release.
