Elia Palazzesi
2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG
“The nose balances warmth and tangy salinity, with hibiscus, cranberries, citrus blossoms and crushed stones. The palate brings sweeter fruit notes of cherries, strawberries and orange jam, with firm tannins that preserve balance.” -94pts, Wine Enthusiast
"Aromas of black cherries and red flowers followed by a touch of baking spices with toasty undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins that last for a long time. Best after 2026." 92pts, James Suckling
Region: Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
Appellation: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG
Varietal/Blend: 100% Sangiovese
ABV: 14.5%
Vineyard: The vineyards sit in the heart of Montalcino, planted at 4,500 vines per hectare and trained in the Guyot system. Soils are classic Brunello clay loam threaded with pebbles, naturally limiting water in the final stages of ripening and encouraging concentrated fruit. Vineyards face southwest on gentle slopes of 5–10% at around 130 metres above sea level.
Cellar: Harvested between late September and early October, the grapes are gently pressed before fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats at 25–28 °C. Periodic pump-overs draw out the wine’s noble compounds, while a long 30-day maceration on the skins builds aromatic intensity. The wine is then aged for 40 months in new French oak tonneaux (medium-sized barrels, typically larger than barriques), followed by 18 months of bottle ageing before release.
CSPC: 118114
