Elia Palazzesi
2020 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
"Bright licorice on the nose with red cherries and cherrystone, wild herbs and overall complexity. Full-bodied with juicy, integrated and long acidity, supple fruit and velvety tannins with a chalkier finish. Good structure for aging, but still enjoyable now." 94 pts, James Suckling
Region: Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
Appellation: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Varietal/Blend: 100% Sangiovese
ABV: 14.5%
Vineyard: The vineyards are situated in the heart of the Montalcino production area, planted at a density of 4,500 vines per hectare and trained in a combination of spurred cordon and Guyot systems. The vineyards face southwest, sitting at around 130 metres above sea level on gentle slopes of 5–10%. Soils are classic Brunello: clay loam threaded with pebbles, naturally regulating water uptake and creating a light, beneficial stress as the grapes reach full maturity.
Cellar: Harvested between late September and early October, the grapes are gently pressed before fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 25–28 °C. Regular pump-overs encourage a slow, even extraction, while maceration on the skins lasts 21–24 days, building structure without excess. The wine is then aged for 30 months in French oak tonneaux (medium-sized oak barrels, typically larger than barriques), followed by 12 months of bottle ageing prior to release.
CSPC: 118115
