2024 Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG Majoli

Ruchè (crossing of Croatina x Malvasia Aromatica di Parma) is one of Piedmont’s best-kept secrets. The nose is intensely aromatic, with persistent layers of rose petals, violet, rose hip, and strawberry, threaded with gentle spice and a hint of pepper. Fruity, expressive, it surprises sip after sip. “Ruchè distinguishes itself from other Piedmont reds above all for its intense floral aromas. It’s not as racy as the region’s other reds, but it’s still fresh and energetic, with a good tannic structure,” says Wine Enthusiast Italian Editor Kerin O’Keefe.

On the palate, spice and fruit are carried with balance, finishing long and elegant. “Thanks to its juicy berry fruit, spicy flavors and structure, Ruchè is remarkably food-friendly,” adds O’Keefe, making it a perfect match for Piedmontese classics such as agnolotti, fritto misto, red meats, game, and aged or blue cheeses or any structured, spicier dish.
