2024 Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG Majoli

Native to a tiny corner of Monferrato and still largely unknown outside Piemonte, Ruchè possesses one of the most distinctive personalities in Italian wine. It somehow manages to smell impossibly floral while still drinking like a proper Piedmontese red. There is nothing quite like it. You get waves of crushed rose petals, violet, rose hip, wild strawberry, and sweet spice, with a crack of black pepper running underneath it all. Yet beneath all that perfume lies real substance. The palate is lively, balancing juicy fruit with fine tannins, bright acidity, and an elegance that lingers long after the last sip. A wine that feels both unique and unmistakably Piedmontese at the same time.
