Barolo DOCG Cru Castagni

Alberto Voerzio

Alberto's vines in the Castagni cru are a scant 0.7 hectares and he makes the most of them. The wine has an upright posture and warm demeanour. The nose is gorgeous, adorned with pretty red fruit and a garland of flowers, the perfume also shows a hint of very handsome cooperage. This wine ages twenty-four months in top notch French oak of varying sizes (225L, 300L, 1000L) with about 25% of the wine seeing new oak each vintage. The palate is plush in savoury mushroom and spice with a classic tart cherry and floral element offering terrific promise for the patient collector. The texture is especially noteworthy with gentle and complex tannins and a finish of cocoa, cherry, and vanilla bean. It's a very fresh and lifted Barolo showing elements of the site's more northern position. Beautiful. (This wine is unfined & unfiltered and may therefore throw a natural deposit with age.)
