2023 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Cru AOC Terre de Pierre

An old favourite! This magical hill (La Butte de la Roche, also where the Gula-Ana cuvée hails from) gives these wonderfully intense and rich Melon de Bourgogne's, so bold, like you'd never expect from this grape, just jam packed with lemon butter and clotted cream and an animal minerality like the smell of a newborn baby’s scalp. Just unreal. Moving. On the palate, there is a dense and powerful pulsating orb of energy, so chewy and round, a blaring trumpet of a wine, with notes that are hard to pull apart and assign names to, suggestive of the wine's immense potential to improve with age. (If you were pressed to name this cuvée's fruit profile, pineapple could act as a starting point.) The Terre de Pierre is a world class Muscadet that deserves at least 5 more years of rest before you’re recused of an infanticide. Stunning. So delicious but do resist drinking! Your future self will thank you.

Peridotite mother rock (earth mantle) altered into a serpentinite mound. The magmatic origins, the very composition of the rock and the multiple upheavals it has undergone give this placed called La Butte de la Roche a vibrant energy. A highly unique geological formation shared by this wine and their Gula-Ana parcel. • Spontaneous fermentation; matured in traditional underground glass-lined vats on the lees for 18 months without racking until March of 2025. • Serve at 12º with crayfish salad, seea bass in salt crust with reduced soy, seared lobster with saffron, or (with 10 years age on it) they recommend it with a deeply French dish: Poularde en Vessie.

Vineyard & Vine Age: Terre de Pierre 2023 is born from the striking terroir of La Butte de la Roche, a serpentinite mound formed from altered peridotite—rock from the earth’s mantle. Its volcanic origin, unique mineral makeup, and geological upheavals give the site an electric energy. This rare soil, found in the heart of the Pays Nantais, defines a new generation of winemaking rooted in place and history.
The vintage brought contrast and complexity: early warmth, summer rains, and late heat shaped the season. The team worked closely with the vines to preserve freshness and identity.
Farming is natural and biodynamic, with horn dung (500) and horn silica (501) applied as needed. Vines are pruned in single Guyot and planted at 6,500 vines per hectare. Hand harvesting with meticulous sorting ensures purity in every bottle.

Cellar: Spontaneous fermentation using only natural yeasts. Fermentation and maturation on lees in
underground glass lined vats during 18 months without racking until bottling in march 2025.

CSPC:  865320

Winemakers Note:  Serve at 12°C.
Crayfish from the Goulaine ‘s marshes in salad, segments of citrus and vinaigrette "retour des

What the Critics are saying:  Ever since this cuvée was introduced I have referred to it as Terre de Pierre de la Butte de la Roche, but I kept losing my breath so have dropped the second part. Otherwise, same terroir – peridotite and serpentinite on the famous butte – and same high quality. The aromatics here are just mind-blowing, as they remain true to the Muscadet ideal, while suggesting a sinewy, vinous, citrus density, spiced with notes of white pepper and crushed flint, the entirety showing beautiful harmony. This delight continues on the palate too, with supple and polished layers of white peach, laced with white pepper and crushed flint, the overall effect more sinewy, serious and vinous than could ever be expected, with a finish riven with infused minerals. Absolutely delicious. This is another cuvée with a longer élevage this year, bottled February 2025. 93-95/100 (Chris Kissack, Winedoctor, February 2025)

Domaine Luneau-Papin, of Marie and Pierre-Marie Luneau, has made a super-relaxed, supple, pure wine with Terre de pierre 2022. In the aroma green melon, but also a touch of butter, which makes it extra round. That’s also how it slides into your mouth. Everything here is rounded and fine, and then, as a surprise, when you swallow it, it is suddenly very excitingly tight with that distinctive saltiness.
FD by Hilary Akers 2024

It is difficult to think of the Muscadet Sèvre and Maine appellation today without immediately thinking of Domaine Luneau-Papin which has become, over the decades, one of the essential references of the region. And we understand why. Pierre-Marie, who took over the family farm after experiences abroad, and his wife Marie seek to express all the potential of this formidable terroir through meticulous and respectful work. Organic farming became obvious in the late 2000s, followed a few years later by biodynamics. La Butte de la Roche, from which this Terre de pierre wine is made, overlooks the marshes of Goulaine and rests on serpentinite, a very singular rock. The wine draws a strong identity with an immediately lemony nose evolving towards floral notes. After a creamy attack, the juice then stretches and unfolds superb sap notes and a very characteristic saltiness. Just, dynamic and true fullness.
Cuisine & Vins de France by Jean-Michel Brouard 2024

Terre de pierre enchants us with its dazzling expressiveness, the salinity of this wine is absolutely invigorating. A style that is both classic and dynamic, which allows the wine for more than ten years of aging.
