Château de Thésée
Touraine Chenonceaux AOC Château de Thésée Amphora-Aged Sauvignon Blanc
For this eponymous cuvée, their standard bearing "Château de Thésée", they do the entire élevage in terracotta Amphora, imparting a beautiful colour, weight, and texture to the wine that is instantly enamouring. This is one of the most unique Sauvignon Blanc's I've tasted in a long while, the way it caresses the palate, resounding like a bell tone long after each sip. Harmoniously balanced and hugely impactful, this wine delivers a ridiculous excess of interest compared to its price point. Drink now or let age for 7-15 years.
Region: Chenonceaux, Touraine, Loire Valley
Appellation: Touraine Chenonceaux AOC
Varietal/Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
ABV: 13.0%
Vineyard & Vine Age: Organic estate vines on cool silica soils with silica chards on a due south aspect facing the Cher river (these south facing river side vineyards are those entitled to the more prestigious designation of Touraine Chenonceaux AOC as opposed to Touraine AOC), 45hl/ha yield, hand harvested and rigorously sorted.
Cellar: Fermented and aged in sealed Amphora on the lees.
CSPC: 132335
Winemakers Note: Very pale yellow. Delicate nose delivering a fusion of ripe grapes and citrus tones, with a subtle mineral touch. The palate is beautifully textured and very silky with intense aromas. This is a gourmet food-friendly wine pairing with delicately-flavoured fish like pike-perch.
