Junto GSM
Bondar Wines
"With welcoming, juicy, soft berries on the palate, this is an uncomplicated but pure and satisfying mouthful. The vibrant acidity and lifted feel to the aromatics leaves you wanting more – not always the way with some more ponderous GSMs. Easy to like, if not a terribly deep or complex wine. But great precision to the fruit and texture." — 92 points, Matt Walls, Decanter
“A great makeup of majority grenache (62%) with a smattering of shiraz, mataro and cinsault, reminiscent of a classic southern Rhône blend, albeit, with a lighter touch. As good, too. Effusive blue- and red-fruit allusions teem along rails of gentle tannins, a burr of whole-bunch spice as seasoning. A sweep of maritime salinity at the finish. Such a complete and joyous wine, light of feel. It would be churlish not to drink a great deal of it.” — 91 points, Ned Goodwin MW, Wine Companion
Region: McLaren Vale, South Australia
Country: Australia
Appellation: McLaren Vale GI
Climate: Warm Mediterranean
Altitude: 119-169m
Soils: Deep sandy soils with ironstone / Shallow clay on limestone base
Varietal/Blend: 62% Grenache, 21% Shiraz, 15% Mataro, 2% Cinsault
Fermentation: All the fruit was wild-fermented with approximately 20% whole-bunches.
Ageing: Aged eight months in old oak.
Vineyard & Vine Age: The Grenache is culled from three separate blocks: the lion’s share is from Bondar's own Rayner Vineyard with the balance coming from the Trott Wilpena and Slattery Vineyards in Blewitt Springs. The Shiraz is also home-grown Rayner fruit (70-year-old vines on sand), while the Mataro was sourced from a grower in the foothills of Willunga on the famed Kurrajong soils. The tiny addition of Cinsaut was drawn from young plantings in the Rayner vineyard. Hand-harvested. Organic conversion.
