Tenuta di Valgiano

2023 Palistorti di Valgiano Rosso

Palistorti means “crooked posts,” the name farmers gave this vineyard because the great limestone rocks at the surface made it nearly impossible to plant the rows straight. It is a beautifully simple name, but one that tells you almost everything about the place. Made with the same care as Tenuta di Valgiano, Palistorti offers a more immediate, open expression of the estate. The vines are 15 to 20 years old, compared with 35 to 40 years for the flagship, but there is still plenty of length and definition here. The fruit is ripe and clear, the tannins supple, and notes of bay leaf, violet, leather, and liquorice give the wine its lovely floral, savoury elegance.

"A fragrant wine with multifaceted aromas of bramble fruit, blood oranges, leaves and aromatic herbs. Super-relaxing palate that’s supple and juicy, with crisp acidity and ripe, well-integrated tannins. A bit powdery in the finish. Drink now." -93pts, James Suckling
