2025 Maganza Orange

If Zibibbo is already one of Sicily’s most gloriously perfumed grapes, skin contact gives all that beauty something to push against. The orange blossom and ripe apricot are still unmistakably there, but the skins pull the wine toward bitter orange peel, bergamot, and dried flowers, bringing a little tannin and gentle bitterness into what might otherwise be pure perfume. That is what makes the combination so good to me. Zibibbo gets to keep all of its flamboyance, but there is more texture, more savouriness, and a little bit of mischief to it now.

Vineyard:  The vineyards are in Salemi, western Sicily, at around 50 metres above sea level, on medium-textured, calcareous soils. They are farmed biodynamically and Demeter-certified, with Guyot-trained vines planted at 4,000 per hectare. Yields are kept to around 90 q/ha, and the grapes are picked by hand in mid-September.

Cellar: Two to three days of skin-contact fermentation, carried out without temperature control, added sulfites, or selected yeasts.
