Fattoria La Rivolta

2023 Taburno Sannio DOC Piedirosso

In Campania, Piedirosso is spoken about with quiet pride: a local grape whose subtlety and character reward those who take the time to understand it. Around Naples, they call it Per ’e Palummo, or “pigeon’s foot,” because the red stem on the berries really does look like a bird’s leg. For centuries, it lived in Aglianico’s shadow, usually there to soften the rough edges. That is changing. With better vineyard work and clonal selection, Piedirosso is finally showing what it can do on its own. Bright red fruit, a flick of volcanic energy, gentle herbal notes, and a surprising ability to age.
