Dacapo

2019 Nizza DOCC Dacapo

Nizza DOCG, established in 2014, is Piedmont’s great modern statement for Barbera, centered in the rolling hills of Monferrato across the 18 communes of the Nizza zone. Here, the grape takes on a more serious and complete shape, without ever losing the brightness and generosity that make Barbera so easy to love. It’s an appellation built on depth, structure, and a real sense of place.

The wine opens with layered aromas of plum, dark cherry, tobacco, licorice, and cinnamon, slowly unfolding into more savoury and tertiary notes. Full-bodied and beautifully structured, it carries all that richness with remarkable freshness and poise, finishing long with a gentle spice and earthy warmth.

Region:  Langhe & Monferrato, Piemonte

Appellation:  Nizza DOCG

Varietal/Blend:  100% Barbera

ABV:  15%

Vineyard:  The vineyard in Agliano Terme is located at 220 meters above sea level, planted in marlstone, calcareous, and clay-rich soils. Trained in the Guyot system, Vigna Dacapo is an officially recognized and highly regarded cru, south-east facing, which also supplies grapes for the Nizza Riserva. The Nizza DOCG, by contrast, comes from vineyards facing east, just beside Vigna Dacapo. Cluster thinning is carried out in August, followed by a careful, hand-harvested selection in October.

Cellar: After destemming and gentle pressing, the grapes undergo a 15 to 20 day maceration and fermentation at controlled temperatures in French Allier vats. Once MLC is complete, the wine is transferred to oak barrels of varying sizes (12 months for Nizza and 24 months for Nizza Riserva, depending on the vintage). After bottling, it rests for an additional 10–12 months in the bottle before release.
