Domaine Tissot
2017 Arbois AOC Vin Jaune Curon
The wine is alive with aroma: candied orange, white flowers, and gentle spice weave seamlessly with the classic nutty, creamy character of Vin Jaune, lifted by subtle hints of peat and smoke. On the palate, it is dense yet vibrant, balancing umami richness with chiselled acidity. Powerful without heaviness, elegant without artifice, it has the structure to evolve beautifully over many decades.
Region: Arbois, Jura
Appellation: Arbois AOC
Varietal/Blend: 100% Savagnin
ABV: 15.5%
Vineyard & Vine Age: Vin Jaune Curon 2017 is produced from 1 hectare of south-facing Savagnin vines planted on steep slopes and terraced sections of micaceous Lias clay. This is the first vintage from this parcel. Vines have been farmed organically since 1999 and biodynamically since 2004 (Ecocert, Biodyvin), with spring and early-summer ploughing, treatments limited to sulfur, copper, and plant infusions, and the use of estate-made compost. Planting density is 7,000 vines/ha (with terrace sections reaching up to 27,000 vines/ha).
Cellar: Grapes were hand-harvested, pressed directly, and fermented in a tank for four months. The wine was then aged for six years in a barrel without topping, developing under a natural veil of yeast. A light sulfur addition was made during vinification, with no additions thereafter; total SO₂ ≤ 20 mg/L. Estimated ageing potential: 50 years.
CSPC: 141016

What the Critics are saying: "This is a new Vin Jaune from the Curon terroir next to the La Tour de Curon on Lias clay soils. The 2017 Curon Vin Jaune had been open for a week when I tasted it, and Stéphane Tissot thinks the character of the terroir is more evident after the wine has been open for a few days (or even better, after years in bottle!). However, the warm character of the warm year and the low yields delivered after the frost showed a wine that was smokier and peatier than expected, pungent and powerful, like a version of Trias soils with more finesse. It will be very interesting to see this wine in the coming years ... and the previous ones, as he still has three barrels of 2015 and 2016 still unbottled. He compared the finesse of this wine to that of the Château Chalon!" 96/100, Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Aug 8th 2024
