Domaine Olga Raffault

2021 Chinon AOC La Cuvée OR, le Chenin des Picasses

Around 2010, Sylvie had the idea to plant a tiny amount of Chenin Blanc in Les Picasses. The tiny production resulted in this new cuvée of several monikers: “l'Or d'Olga” (Olga’s Gold), La Cuvée OR (another play on names, the initials of the domaine and the word for Gold), and then the subtitle Le Chenin des Picasses, really spelling it out for us!

Le Chenin des Picasses has a richer, fleshy texture and perceived sweetness (despite fermenting dry) that drinks gorgeously now but will clearly age like a tortoise. Aromatically it is smoky and more honeyed, filled with dried-fruit character, polished by oak, with Chenin’s wonderful medicinal herb notes, a touch of absinthe and white pepper joining the medley.
