Domaine Olga Raffault

2021 Chinon AOC La Cuvée OR, le Chenin des Picasses

The family planted Chenin Blanc under ten years ago in their flagship Les Picasses lieu-dit vineyard to see what that famed clay-limestone terroir slope would produce. It was bottled as "Chenin de Picasses" for the first time in the 2020 vintage (note: in France the wine bears a different label and name, "L'Or d'Olga"). Find notes of chamomile, lemon balm, lanolin, hazelnut and crushed gravel. This cuvée represents a more structured, age-worthy white with extended lees aging. In 2021, the cool growing season delivered tense, vibrant Chenin Blanc with excellent longevity potential and lifted aromatics due to extended ripening.

Organic, hand harvested, whole-cluster pressed and an overnight cold settle of the must. Fermentation to dryness takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in 500L second- and third-use French oak demi-muids. The wine does not go through MLF and is aged on its fine lees for a year in those same barrels, clarifying naturally during that time and is thereby bottled without filtration.
