Vineyard & Vine Age: Le Verger 2023 is rooted in the Papin family’s historic vineyard in La Chapelle-Heulin, where vines draw their character from a bedrock of schist and micaschist. This terroir, cherished for generations, yields wines of depth and mineral clarity. The 2023 vintage was marked by a dynamic growing season—early warmth, midsummer rains, and a hot, dry finish—demanding attentive work in the vineyard to retain balance and avoid overripeness.
The estate follows natural farming practices: no chemical inputs, regular applications of horn dung (500) in spring, and horn silica (501) before harvest when needed. Vines are trained in single Guyot and pruned gently to respect sap flow, with a density of 6,500 plants per hectare. Harvest is done entirely by hand, with rigorous sorting in the vineyard before pressing.
Le Verger offers a vibrant, terroir-driven expression of Muscadet, with freshness and precision at its core.
Cellar: Spontaneous fermentation using only natural yeasts. Fermentation and maturation on lees in
underground glass lined vats during 16 months without racking until bottling in january 2025.

What the Critics are saying:
A young-vines cuvée, the pied shaving been planted in 1998, on schist near La Chapelle-Heulin, this opens with a nose of pressed apple, white currant and crushed mineral freshness. The palate which follows is bright, silky and harmonious, with a beautifully integrated texture which supports veins of minerals and acids. Lively and bright, this has a fresh midpalate, a lovely coherence, and a delicately bitter but textured finish which leads to a slow fade. A delicious, drink-now Muscadet. The alcohol on the label is 12%. From a 2025 Update. 92/100 (Chris Kissack, Winedoctor, February 2025)
The whole range of wines of the estate deserves to be explored as the expressions of the different terroirs are expressed with precision. The cuvée Le Verger is of a vibrant energy and sharpened like the thread of a knife. We love its saline minerality that matches perfectly with the fine sweetness of a carpaccio of scallops with citrus or the pearly flesh of Spéciales de Claire oysters.

On Muscadet side, the range is conducted with tact in 2023, starting with Le Verger, frank and tender at first.
RVF Guide vert 2025 by Alexis Goujard
The Muscadet Le Verger 2020 from Domaine Luneau-Papin offers a great alternative in the Loire Valley. This wine from the village of La Chapelle-Heulin breathes schist in both its aromas and its flavors. Its elegant structure ends on beautiful mineral sap notes that bring depth. The estate is remarkable right from the beginning with cuvées outlined by purity and salinity.
