Luneau Papin
2023 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Cru AOC La Grange
On the palate, just a deeply pleasing wine with that pineapple juice like tension between acidity and roundness, and hosts of citrus notes, tumbling into a long finish of pineapple. This is mother’s milk, such a lovely drink of wine, something you could nurse all day, and certainly with the energy and density to improve over another five to ten years in cellar with ease.
On a bedrock of schist and micaschist, signature of Le Landreau and the Luneau family’s most historical vineyard. • Spontaneous fermentation, aged in traditional underground glass-lined vats for 16 months on the lees without racking; bottled January 2025. • Serve at 12º with shellfish or seafood, marinated or raw fish, sushi, roasted fillet of sea bream, moules marinières, or fresh cheeses.
Region: Pays Nantais, Loire Valley
Appellation: Muscadet Sèvre & Maine AOC
Varietal/Blend: 100% Melon de Bourgogne

Vineyard & Vine Age: Luneau-Papin’s La Grange 2023 is a vivid expression of the schist and micashist bedrock that defines the terroir of Le Landreau, where the estate’s cellars and surrounding vineyard parcels are located. This vintage reflects the true identity of the domaine’s soils, shaped by a year of contrasting conditions—spring heat, July rains, and a warm, dry harvest season. The team walked the vineyards frequently to preserve freshness and terroir expression, avoiding the overly solar character of recent years. Farming follows natural practices: no chemical inputs, biodynamic preparations like horn dung (500) in spring and horn silica (501) as needed. The vines, trained in single Guyot with 6,500 plants per hectare, are pruned gently to respect sap flow. Grapes are hand-harvested with careful in-vineyard sorting before gentle pressing at the cellar. The result is a Muscadet of clarity, depth, and mineral precision.

What the Critics are saying:
This cuvée has been a Luneau-Papin stalwart for many years, sometimes with Vieilles Vignes and Jeunes Vignes versions. Now named simply La Grange, it is sourced from vines planted on schist and micaschist, near Le Landreau, in 1974. Aromatically it is charming and fresh, with harmoniously interleaved layers of delicate citrus and powdered minerals. This translates into a palate which is beautifully composed, with a sense of polished harmony as well as fine-boned acids. A very correct style, with a beautiful surge of energy in the finish. A delight. The alcohol on the label is 12%. From a 2025 Update. 92/100 (Chris Kissack, Winedoctor, February 2025)
On Muscadet side, the range is conducted with tact in 2023, starting with Le Verger, frank and tender at first. La Grange is just as refined with an insistant noble sap note on the final. What peps!
RVF Guide vert 2025 by Alexis Goujard
The 2022 range finely masters the solar character of the vintage, starting with Le Verger, tender and frank at the same time, or La Grange, full of peps, with tonic contours and a stimulating fine sap note. Two delicious cuvées to understand the pure and straight style of the estate.
RVF Guide Vert 2024 by Alexis Goujard
The 35-year-old vines on micaschists give a chiseled and fresh wine for La Grange, which rings true and illustrates the talent and precision of the Luneau family.
