2015 Crozes-Hermitage AOC Les Malfondières

Domaine François Villard

This library release is from the eponymous lieu-dit of Malfondières in Mercurol, Villard’s top Crozes-Hermitage parcel, where we find very stony deep decarbonated soils with an acidic sandy-loam on the surface that allows for terrific drainage, while banking water in the red sandy-clays deep below that these wonderful old vines (45-years-old at the time of the vintage) can tap into at depth. In this expression we find lots of dried spices and mushroom depth with leather and roasted plums and tremendous structure. 5500 vines/ha and a yield of 50hl/ha. This cuvée is aged in the winery’s cellars several years before release, and this vintage was released after the 2016 and 2017 as it was not ready until now. Only 4,500 bottles made. Only 18 bottles available at present. 100% whole cluster, fermented in open top stainless, aged 18 months in old oak. 13.5% ABV. Cellaring potential: 15 years further.
