2022 Crozes-Hermitage AOC Certitude

Domaine François Villard

From his vineyards in Mercurol, Beaumont-Monteux, and Chanos-Curson, the Certitude is François’s younger-vine Crozes-Hermitage. The vines average 15 years of age but nevertheless see careful farming and a 55% whole cluster ferment in open oak vats, followed by 12 months in oak, then racked and blended for six months in stainless before bottling. These are pebbly vineyards with variously sandy and clayey patches, planted at 5,500 vines/ha and pruned in the Cordon de Royat method. Yields of only 45hl/ha. 12.5%. 21,000 bottles made. A wonderful freshness replete with lots of floral and leathery parentheticals. Cellaring potential: 15 years.
