Malvasia Cuvée Specialé

Pago Casa Gran

Malvasia is one of our favourite varieties! This is the step up from their stainless steel version. They've implemented concrete eggs and lees stirring to give this wine some oxygen and a rounder acidity and enhanced texture. These have added a wealth of nuances to Malvasia's endless bouquet and stone fruit profile. Something of the aroma makes you nostalgic for peeling those fruit cups you'd get for lunch as a kid, it's invigorating!

Interesting side note: The archaeological surveys that have been taking place around Pago Casa Gran's estate have uncovered winemaking going back to the 4th century BCE in this Les Alcusses mountain valley (the etching you see on this label was also uncovered). The findings have inspired the Galbis family to restore single varietal wines from ancient Mediterranean varieties like Malvasia, taking advantage of the cooling effects owed to their implementation of permanent crop cover over the last 15 years and their 550m elevation.
