Tokara Stellenbosch
Elgin WO Reserve Collection Sauvignon Blanc
This Reserve Sauvignon Blanc comes from Tokara’s Highlands vineyard in Elgin, a cool, elevated site where the vines are cropped for precision and intensity, and only a handful of the very best blocks make it into the Reserve.
On the nose, lime blossom and passion fruit take the lead, but linger long enough for lemongrass, blackcurrant leaf, and a touch of ripe greengage to weave themselves in. The palate is bright and focused, bursting with juicy citrus and subtle stone fruit, yet held in check by a crisp, mineral-edged freshness that promises the wine will age gracefully.
Region: Elgin, South Africa
Appellation: Elgin WO
Varietal/Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
ABV: 13%
Vineyard & Vine Age: The grapes for the Reserve Elgin Sauvignon Blanc come from Tokara’s Highlands vineyard in Elgin, a cool-climate site atop Sir Lowry’s Pass planted on predominantly Table Mountain sandstone soils. The vines are carefully cropped, yielding 4 to 7 tons/ ha.
Cellar: The grapes were hand-picked at dawn at peak ripeness and gently cooled before being brought to the winery on Helshoogte Pass. There, they were destemmed, lightly crushed, and cold-pressed, with only the free-run juice from the best blocks used for the Reserve Collection. Fermentation took place in stainless steel at cool temperatures, and the wine then rested on its fine lees for nine months with regular stirring, developing texture and depth before bottling.
CSPC: 141646
Winemakers Note:
What the Critics are saying: "Inviting aromas of gooseberry and bell pepper intertwine with intriguing hints of asparagus and fresh peas. On the palate, lively passion fruit and melon burst forth, balanced by a zesty citrus edge. The finish is smooth and classy." - 95pts, Gold Medal, IWSC2025
