2022 Tenuta di Valgiano MAGNUM

Tenuta di Valgiano is the estate’s flagship, a wine of real energy, depth, and enormous ageing potential. Sangiovese is joined by Merlot and Syrah from 35- to 40-year-old vines, with the blend moving gently with the season: a little more Merlot in cooler years, a little more Syrah when the Tuscan sun runs warm. The blend is not a modern Super Tuscan idea, but part of Lucca’s history. When Napoleon’s sister Elisa Bonaparte ruled as Princess of Lucca, the French court brought Merlot and Syrah with them. Because they ripen earlier and at different times from Sangiovese, they gave growers a little insurance in colder vintages.

The wine feels ripe at exactly the right moment: wild bush fruit, density without heaviness, and a fine line of tension holding everything together. Used oak brings a polished cocoa note. Powerful, complete, and made for the long road ahead.
