Punset

2012 Barbaresco DOCG Campo Quadro Riserva MAGNUM

"Reaching its peak, this red reveals fading plum, carob, licorice, earth, eucalyptus and spice flavours. Rich and harmonious, with ample acidity and dusty, well-integrated tannins. Drink now through 2032." -92pts, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator

Organic

Region:  Barbaresco, Piemonte

Appellation:  Barbaresco DOCG

Varietal/Blend:  100% Nebbiolo

ABV:  14.5%

Vineyard:  This wine comes from Punset’s vineyards on San Cristoforo hill, among the highest points in Barbaresco. It includes the Basarin and San Cristoforo MeGA sites. The San Cristoforo vineyard sits on the upper slopes, sheltered by woodland and mainly southeast-facing. Campo Quadro, a parcel just under 1.5 hectares, receives gentle sunlight that warms the soil evenly, avoiding thermal shock. Yields are very low, rarely exceeding 70 q/ha.

Cellar: Grapes were hand-harvested in October, destemmed, and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks using traditional cap management. Fermentation lasted over 40 days in 2012. The wine is removed from the skins without pressing and matures in a combination of barriques and tonneaux through careful blending and redistribution to preserve freshness. Aging continued for roughly three and a half years in cask, followed by three years in bottle.
