Cordero San Giorgio

2021 Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese Riserva DOC SG ‘67

Named after the vineyard planted in 1967, this is where the Corderos’ vision for Oltrepò Pavese really starts coming into focus. Aged in both French barrique and large oak cask, SG ’67 carries all the silken texture and mineral tension that makes these limestone hills such an exciting place for Pinot Nero. There are notes of wild herbs, ripe red berries, spice, cocoa, balsamic lift, and that haunting earthy perfume great Pinot seems to summon out of nowhere.

Region:  Oltrepò Pavese, Lombardia

Appellation:  Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese Riserva DOC

Varietal/Blend:

ABV:  14.0%

Vineyard:  Fruit comes from a vineyard planted in 1967, with southwest exposure and clay-limestone soils rich in limestone rock. The grapes are hand-harvested in late August or early September.

Cellar: Grapes are destemmed without pressing to preserve the whole berries, followed by a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel with one short pump-over each day. After racking, the wine completes MLC in barriques, then ages for approximately ten months in French oak barriques of various origins, ten months in large barrels, and at least ten months in bottle before release.
