Contucci
2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Riserva
"The fantastic Contucci 2019 Vino Nobile Riserva hits all the right buttons, starting with its aromas of forest floor, leather, fragrant blue flower and culinary spice. Youthfully austere and showing great tension and aging potential, the vibrant, focused palate offers Marasca cherry, raspberry, crushed mint and clove set against a backbone of fine-grained tannins. It's well balanced, with bright acidity. Drink 2031–2044." -Kerin O'Keefe, July 2025 ©kerinokeefe.com
Region: Montepulciano, Tuscany
Appellation: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Riserva
Varietal/Blend: 80% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), 20% Canaiolo & Colorino
ABV: 14%
Vineyard: Estate vineyards in Montepulciano with vines between 10 and 35 years old. The vineyards sit at 350 to 450 meters altitude on Pliocene clay soils with southeast exposure. The vines are trained in spalliera with cordon pruning at about 4,500 vines per hectare and hand harvested in late September.
Cellar: Grapes are destemmed, crushed, and fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats. Fermentation and maceration last 20 to 21 days at 26 to 28°C with frequent pump overs. After pressing, the wine completes MLC before ageing 36 months in French and Slavonian oak casks, with rackings every six months. It then rests 4 to 6 months in stainless steel before bottling and a further 12 months of bottle ageing prior to release. ~10,000 to 12,000 bottles produced.
