Region: Montepulciano, Tuscany
Appellation: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
Varietal/Blend: 80% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), 20% Canaiolo & Colorino
ABV: 14%
Vineyard: Estate vineyards in the Salarco area of Montepulciano. The 10 to 35-year-old vines grow at an altitude of 350 to 450 meters on Pliocene clay soils with southeast exposure. The vines are trained in spalliera with cordon pruning and planted at about 4,500 vines per hectare. The grapes are hand-harvested beginning in the third week of September.
Cellar: Grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats. Fermentation and maceration last 16 to 19 days at 26 to 28°C with frequent pump overs. After pressing, the wine completes MLC before ageing 24 months in French and Slavonian oak casks. It then rests 2 months in stainless steel before bottling and a further 6 to 8 months in bottle before release. ~40,000 to 50,000 bottles produced.
