Contucci

2021 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG

"Underbrush, iris, new leather and dark-skinned fruit aromas form the enticing nose on the fragrant 2020 Palazzo Contucci along with spicy notes. A blend of 80% Sangiovese locally called Prugnolo Gentile, 10% Canaiolo Nero and 10% Colorino and made with the best grapes from the Pietra Rossa and Mulinvecchio vineyards, the savory palate blends structure and finesse, delivering juicy black plum, cherry compote, star anise and cake spice before finishing on a truffle note. Tightly woven, fine-grained tannins provide support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2027–2035." -Kerin O'Keefe, July 2025, ©kerinokeefe.com

Appellation:  Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG

Varietal/Blend:  80% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), 20% Canaiolo & Colorino

ABV:  14%

Vineyard:  Estate vineyards in the Salarco area of Montepulciano. The 10 to 35-year-old vines grow at an altitude of 350 to 450 meters on Pliocene clay soils with southeast exposure. The vines are trained in spalliera with cordon pruning and planted at about 4,500 vines per hectare. The grapes are hand-harvested beginning in the third week of September.

Cellar: Grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats. Fermentation and maceration last 16 to 19 days at 26 to 28°C with frequent pump overs. It then rests 2 months in stainless steel before bottling and a further 6 to 8 months in bottle before release. ~40,000 to 50,000 bottles produced.
