Contucci

2024 Rosso di Montepulciano DOC

Contucci Rosso begins with notes of violet, plum, and a hint of leather. On the palate, plum and black cherry dominate, while a subtle touch of spice appears unexpectedly but enhances the overall experience. It’s smooth, approachable, and layered enough to enjoy geek out over without feeling intimidating.

Region:  Montepulciano, Tuscany

Appellation:  Rosso di Montepulciano DOC

Varietal/Blend:  80% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), 20% Canaiolo & Colorino

ABV:  13.5%

Vineyard:  Estate vineyards in the Salarco area of Montepulciano at an altitude of 300 to 400 meters with southeast exposure. The 7 to 20-year-old vines grow on Pliocene clay soils and are trained in spalliera with cordon pruning at a density of about 4,000 vines per hectare. The vineyards are family-owned, with hand harvesting typically beginning in the first part of October.

Cellar: The grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats. Fermentation and maceration last about 12 days at controlled temperatures of 26 to 28°C with regular pump overs. After pressing, the wine completes MLC in stainless steel before ageing 8 months in French oak casks. It then rests for 2 months in stainless steel for natural settling before bottling and a further 2 to 3 months of bottle ageing before release. ~18,000 to 20,000 bottles produced.
