2023 Côtes de Bourg AOC Nature Peinture

Merlot in all its loveliness, round and easy, a big bear hug of ripe, slightly jammy red berries with beautiful spice and an easy demeanour. Simply outstanding fruit, unencumbered by oak spice, gentle with its scant five days maceration and bright with textured acidity yet rolly-polly with its 14.5% body. It's the kind of crowd pleaser that wins hearts and minds back to this versatile and glorious variety. Just lovely length enhanced by the kind of nuanced acidity and balance that great farming achieves in the hands of a skilled winemaker. Easy to pair with a ton of foods but, if you're looking for a contrast pairing, super fun to put to work with oily fish and gravlax and such.

Cellar: Château la Grolet 2022 Côtes de Bourg Nature Peinture is crafted with indigenous fermentation at low temperatures, using native yeasts. After five days of maceration, the wine is aged for one year in truncated concrete vats.

Vineyard:  Château la Grolet 2022 Côtes de Bourg Nature Peinture comes from estate vineyards at 20 meters, farmed biodynamically. Grown in a moderate Atlantic climate on loamy gravelly soils, the vines are double Guyot pruned with thoughtful soil and plant care.
