2023 Collines Rhodaniennes IGP Les Contours de Deponcins

Domaine François Villard

The perfect entry point to François's Condrieu at half the price. These two parcels are in Vérin and next to the winery in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, the two southernmost villages of the seven permitted to make Condrieu. This is François's younger-vine Viognier grown in two of his Condrieu vineyards. 15 year old vines planted on a southeast exposure at 8,000 vines per hectare on granitic sands and mica schist, yielding 40hl/ha. Direct pressed to oak barrels and foudres for a cool native yeast fermentation followed by 10 months of ageing on the fine lees. 13.5% ABV. 40,000 bottles made. Cellaring potential: ten years. Essentially a condrieu hiding in plain sight, a wonderful find for the attentive wine nerd!
