La Réserve Rasteau AOC

Camille Cayran Cave de Cairanne

A classically styled GSM that shows Rasteau in all its newfound glory, being so recently elevated to its own cru (not unlike Cru Cairanne). The colour is a gorgeous carmine red. A powerful nose shows crushed blueberries, black olives, violet petals, marzipan, garrigue herbs, and the beginnings of black truffle notes that will only develop with further age. A wonderfully silky palate with a terrific structure of soft, rich tannins and a generous helping of fruit courtesy 20% of the cuvée being done carbonic. The finish carries out as the nose promised with additional notes of spiced olives, black cherry, and nutmeg. Best served at 18ºC — a beautiful pairing for lamb, bison, and game, and no slouch with a classic steak and potatoes dinner. Drinking window: 2-8 years. 92 points, Decanter.
