Alexander Zahel
2025 Retzer Land Grüner Veltliner
Grüner Veltliner with a little more weight to it. Not the quick, peppery, gulp-it-down version, but something deeper, calmer, and a bit more serious. It still has that unmistakable Grüner freshness, but the fruit has moved into a riper, more golden place, with pear skin, yellow apple, and quince coming through as it opens. What I really like here is that it never tips too far in either direction. There is generosity, but it still feels composed and detailed, which is where Grüner can be so beautiful. Open it with ceviche, sushi, spicy Thai food, or Tafelspitz.
