William Downie - Mornington

William Downie - Mornington

WILLIAM DOWNIE

Bill makes great Pinot Noir. Not because he is enamoured with the varietal though. The wines are an expression of time and place. As he refines his process of distilling down to the core of this goal, we are fortunate enough to see a handful of bottles telling this story. The Mornington site bottling shows a wonderful concentration of flavours, cranberry, plum, lavender, and poached rhubarb. Lovely tannins and texture. Thoughtful, and persistent back palate. With his desire being to let the wine come to be rather than force it, this is a fine example of learning how to do “nothing” well. Drink 2018 - 2028
