Sting and Trudie Styler's Tuscan Project

Who would've thought Vino al Vino would count a celebrity winery among our boutique portfolio of minimalist and traditionalist wines! In this rarest of situations we found ourselves with immaculate Chianti in our glasses, wines that delivered in every mode we hold dear: the juice is profoundly delicious, the farming is natural and gives back to the land, and their terroir driven wines are made traditionally without manipulation. With that said, legendary romantics and creative icons do own (and also work!) this idyllic Tuscan estate! If you want to know more about the characteristics of this area you can take a look at www.vinerra.com

Tenuta Il Palagio is the domaine of the Grammy studded Sting of The Police and famed actress, producer, and director Trudie Styler. After buying the 16th century manor in 1997, Sting & Styler discovered 11.3ha of all-but-abandoned vines they revived or replanted with the help of world renowned biodynamic viticulture expert Alan York. Ever since, they’ve been farming not just grapes but honey, olives, vegetables, grain, fruit, and sunflowers naturally since 2001 under the watchful eye of Paolo Rossi and legendary Italian winemaker Paolo Caciorgna.

Moreover, in September of 2020 they announced the addition of Riccardo Cotarella to the Il Palagio team, widely considered Italy’s number one Eonologist, president of Assoenologi and world co-president of the Union Internationale des Enologues. (And for the wine trivia lovers!: Riccardo is also brothers with Antinori’s winemaker, Renzo Cotarella.)

The resulting fruit from such careful farming has delivered beyond our highest expectations, assuring us that we would have happily found our long-sought-after Chianti producer in Il Palagio regardless of Sting & Trudie's success in the fine arts.

Married 28 years, Sting and Styler are not mere figureheads of this estate. They are extremely active and dedicated to every aspect of their holistic farm’s production. Both Sting and Styler grew up working class, Sting in the urban throes of Wallsend in Northumberland and Styler on a family farm outside Bromsgrove in Worcestershire. Styler’s instinct for farming has come to bear on the estate and Sting has found new artistic inspiration and joy in working the land over these last 24 years.

Their line up of gorgeous reds, whites, rosés (and soon sparkling!) are grown on 11.3ha of old vines and 17ha of additional vines they planted in 2004. Their wines are dialled in, through and through, vibrant and effusive gems that will gratify the most ardent Chianti Classico and Super Tuscan addicts. The line includes refreshing early drinking cuvées and cellar worthy wines alike. We can’t wait for you all to taste them. Saluti!
